Laura Garcia Blog 2 Reflections The Importance of Voting: A Reflection on Civic Duty Going into this election cycle, I wasn't even sure if I would vote. I was always a little insecure about my knowledge with regard to the political world and did not want to make a decision when I knew nothing about it. Social media and all conversations were filled with news about the candidates, but I had never taken the time to do extensive research on the platforms, policies, and what the leadership of each candidate could mean for the nation. It was not until being assigned this project that I was forced to delve deep into the current political environment in America. As such, this assignment required me to do extensive research and receive numerous viewpoints regarding the candidates and their policy stances. After I presented my findings, I was able to listen to the projects prepared by my classmates and got further clarification on most of the uncertainties that had been in my mind. By the ...

Neisser Millan 11/7/2024 Blog #2 Elections Matter: Going into this election, I wasn't sure if I would even vote, as I was not confident I had the required political knowledge to decide and cast my ballot. I had been hearing about both candidates everywhere on social media and in person, but I never took the time out of my day to research and really dive deep into what each candidate is striving for and what their becoming president really means for our country. However, after being assigned this project, I was forced to do extensive research on the topic and familiarize myself with the current political landscape in the US. After presenting my project I was able to listen to the other projects created by my peers and even got to ask questions, removing whatever doubts I had left. After the project concluded, I was made aware of just how important voting was, and I decided to do some more research later that day to finally cast my vote.  Laura Garcia Class Presentations Review: Public Speaking: The Evolving Art by Sherri Sinkoff Last week, our class undertook an in-depth analysis in the group presentations of Public Speaking: The Evolving Art by Sherri Sinkoff, where we were all asked to summarize and analyze certain chapters in the textbook. As was expected, enlightened presentations went ahead to give an overview of major issues in public speaking. The review herein summarizes key takeaways from each group's presentation with suggestions for future improvement. Group 1: Setting the Foundations Group 1 talked about Chapters 1, 2, 3, and 5 on the basic elements of public speaking. They did a pretty good job setting the pace for the rest of the presentations by chronological structuring, especially with Aristotle's classical theories of rhetoric. This transparency in structure made it easier to listen to and appreciate how the basics of understanding public speaking come before advanced aspects. It was an infor...
