Public Speaking- The Evolving Art By Sherri Sinkoff: Review of Class Presentations

Last week, our class got a great introduction to the world of Public Speaking. Each group was assigned specific chapters to present, and their presentations were both phenomenal and intriguing. Let's review what each group discussed in their respective sections and highlight the key moments from their presentations.

Group 1- Foundation layers

Group 1 kicked off the journey by presenting chapters 1,2,3, and 5. They started on a very positive note presenting everything in a chronological order that helped the class ease into the material, especially for those not yet familiar with the topic. The key takeaway was that understanding these foundational elements of public speaking makes it easier to grasp the more complex concepts later on. Despite their good presentation, they could have elaborated more on details and showing the connections between the chapters. They could have also made it a bit shorter due to the fact that it got boring after a while. They did have it harder because they were the first group to present the first speech of the class but overall it was a great start to the presentations.

Group 2 - The Deep Dive (my group)

We were assigned chapters 4,6,7 and 8 we completed the assignment with lots of enthusiasm. Our goal was to connect our chapters and find a way to connect it to the first groups chapter. We mainly focused on adjusting speech delivery based on the audience, researching to develop the speech, and establishing credibility. The energy of our presentation was quiet off I believe we need to practice more and try to grab the audience attention a little more. Nonetheless we succeeded in advancing the insights of group 1 while elaborating on our own assigned topics. Our somewhat active engagement with the class seemed effective and helped drive home the key concepts of the chapters we were assigned. Moving on forward our group should elaborate more on the key topics and plan our speech more, have it prepared before the day of our presentation.

Group 3 - Unveiling New Horizons

Group 3 was responsible for chapters 9,10,11,13, and 15. they covered advanced topics from the effective use of language to visual aids in presentations. Their presentation was incredibly informative. I really liked their powerpoint and how they tied it into their speech. Their use of visuals and very little writing on  their powerpoint really caught my attention. I believe the way they delivered their speech was very spot on and it kept the audience engaged. The questions they asked kept the audience on their feet and actually made the audience engage and pay attention with the presentation. Their presentation was one of the best, probably one of the groups to catch the audience attention. Their presentation was a bit long but it was very entertaining.

Group 4

Group 4 finished it off by presenting chapters 12,14,16, and 17. They were very crucial in weaving carious elements into a cohesive whole and did an excellent job summarizing how earlier chapters interconnected. Their presentation provided closure, leaving us with a comprehensive understanding of the entire text.

while each group focused on specific chapters, I think it is essential to recognize how these contents relate. Their is various ways in how we can further enhance the overall presentation experience. Some of them are Highlight connections between overlapping chapters to provide a more integrated presentation of the material, groups can build on previously spoken topics and chapters, and the groups can engage more with the audience by asking more questions and initiate discussions. Usually the more interactive the presentation the better it tends to be.
