Public Speaking- The Evolving Art By Sherri Sinkoff: Review of Class Presentations
Last week, we were split into groups and were assigned to make a power point about Public Speaking. Each group as assigned different chapters that each focused on different areas of public speaking.
Lets review what each group presented, and how they presented it.
Group 1:
Group 1 did Chapter 1,2,3, and 5. They presented some examples from famous figures like Aristotle in order to persuade us to their viewpoint, which helped keep the reader engaged throughout. I think everyone in group 1 did a good job presenting their slides and nobody really made a big mistake. They included enough words in the power point to get the point across without having too much for the audience to read each slide. They accompanied this with having lots of pictures each slide that gave the audience some visual stimulation and helped get the point across better while keeping the audience engaged.
Group 2:
Group 2 was my group, and we did chapters 4,6,7 and 8. Our presentation focused mostly on how to inform your reader on your topic and back up the information presented with a multitude of things like examples, testimonies, definitions, etc. When it comes to our power point I think we did a good job packing the key points of the chapters into each slide without bloating i tup with too many words. I also tried my best to include as least 2 pictures each slide in order to give the audience something to give them stimulated, as just having words each slide can make the audience space out and not focus on your presentation. I think each of my group members did a good job presenting their slides, and each slide was whole and complete.
Group 3:
Group 3 did Chapter 9, 11, 13, and 15. They focused on how to to make the most out the limited words you can put in your presentations and how to convey feelings and stimulate your audience by including pictures in your presentations. I liked their power point a lot as it was full of information while not being bloated. They made the best out of the limited words they had and complimented it well with some good pictures. When it comes to their presentation, while it was very informative, I felt like they could have had some more audience interaction in between slides or asking the audience some questions, instead of just reading the power point aloud.
Group 4:
Group 4 did Chapter 12, 14, 16, and 17. I think this group had the hardest chapters to present, as they had to to present the chapters that conclude that part of the textbook, which meant they had to include things from a lot of prior chapters in their presentation. That being said, I think they did a great job cramming all that information in their power point. While, so much information could be overwhelming, they did a fantastic job including many pictures in each slide to compliment it.
Nice but not 1000 words.
