Elections Matter:
Going into this election, I wasn't sure if I would even vote, as I was not confident I had the required political knowledge to decide and cast my ballot. I had been hearing about both candidates everywhere on social media and in person, but I never took the time out of my day to research and really dive deep into what each candidate is striving for and what their becoming president really means for our country. However, after being assigned this project, I was forced to do extensive research on the topic and familiarize myself with the current political landscape in the US. After presenting my project I was able to listen to the other projects created by my peers and even got to ask questions, removing whatever doubts I had left. After the project concluded, I was made aware of just how important voting was, and I decided to do some more research later that day to finally cast my vote. Regardless of the outcome, I can say I did my part by casting an educated vote on who I believe should become the 47th president of the United States.
What I Took Away From The Presentations:
After listening to all of my classmates' presentations, I took away a multitude of things from each of their projects, but the one that stuck with me the most was the one about Gender Equality from group 4. It amazes me that gender equality still persists to this day on the magnitude of what was presented by group 4. Before listening to their presentation, I thought that we made great strides on the front of gender equality throughout the years, and while there were always going to be struggles, we were on the right path. My view shifted after listening to their presentation I became aware of the specific issues that were going on currently and believe we could do more RIGHT NOW to mend them. I believe we are not doing enough as it stands if we ever hope to have a true gender-equal country in the future. Furthermore, I believe gender equality is one of the most important issues that we should be focused on fixing in the present day. If women had all the same opportunities as men do, we could see a spike in the quality of America's workforce, as people increase hiring based on skill and talent, and stop focusing on one's gender. We must be united as Americans regardless of one's sex, ethnicity, or political views, because, at the end of the day, we are all striving to improve our country and the world.
Reflection:
Looking back, I am very grateful I got the chance to participate in this assignment. I learned many things because of the research I had to do, and the opportunity to present was also a new and refreshing experience for me. I'm happy this class semester ran through the election, as I believe I gained some very valuable knowledge from class discussions and stuff even outside of class, I was inspired to do more research because of what we were discussing in class, and now know how important my vote is, and will continue to stay up to date on the shifts in the political landscape in the future. Everything that I forgot to ask during the presentations I researched later that day, and led me down a rabbit hole of information pertaining to the current election and just how important it was to America's future. I became aware of just how important a single vote was, and while I was eager to vote and do my part, I also knew I had to do some more research on each candidate and the policies they hope to bring if they become president. After doing extensive research on each candidate I finally came to my conclusion and decided who to vote for, and am now happy I am a contributing American who is informed and doing my part in shaping our country.
Conclusion:
To sum it all up, this assignment served as a catalyst to help me start my journey into learning about the Politics in our country. Making the presentation itself required extensive research on immigration and the different viewpoints each candidate holds on the subject while presenting also served as a new experience for me. Listening to my classmate's presentations helped me grasp the bigger picture of the politics in the United States and informed me on how each candidate felt on the matter they were presenting. After the assignment was finished, I felt obligated to do my own research into this upcoming election in order to vote, as I now knew just how important my vote was in shaping our country's future. I extensively researched the policies each president was hoping to push, and just how it would shape America in the future. After everything was said and done, I knew what I needed to do, and made an educated vote and cast my ballot. In the future, I will continue to keep up to date on the shifts in America's political landscape to keep on contributing to our country's future by letting my voice be heard and participating in not only presidential elections but anywhere else I can.
Very nice reflection and writing.
